A proprietor of a private hospital in Arogun village of Ewekoro Local Government of Ogun State, Titilayo Adebola, has been arrested by the police over a missing baby delivered in the hospital.
The suspect, who is also a nurse, allegedly abducted the baby on June 13, and was subsequently arrested by the police attached to Ewekoro Division of the state command on Friday.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrest to reporters on Sunday in Abeokuta, saying the nurse who took delivery of the baby in the hospital on June 13 had lied and deceived the mother that she had a still birth.
He explained further that sympathizers in the community noticed that the suspect, who was never pregnant, suddenly started nursing a baby.
“The police operatives handled the matter professionally as they rescued the baby alive and unhurt. The suspect has given credible statement that will assist the police. The woman will soon be charged to court,” the police spokesman said.
He said the commissioner of police, Abdulmajid Ali, has directed that the matter be properly investigated in order to get useful information that will help in the prosecution of the case.
He also charged owners of hospitals or maternity homes in the state to operate within legal framework and always employ credible and trusted nurses and staff that respect the ethics of their professions and laws of the land.
