Gunmen on Monday abducted 12 passengers along the Elele-Alimini road in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The gunmen opened fire on the bus around 9:00 am, killing the driver before abducting the passengers.
Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers State Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police has ordered men of the command to rescue the abducted passengers as soon as possible and that the police are on the trail of the kidnappers.
The Elele-Alimi axis had been a target for kidnappers lately. As a result, drivers and travellers have been advised to use alternative routes into PH after 6:00 pm.
