TVCNews
A total number of five hundred women suffering from the vesico vaginal fistula illness have undergone successful free surgeries as recorded for the year 2018 in VVF center of Bingham University Teaching Hospital Jos Plateau State.
Research indicates Nigeria has the highest prevalence rate of Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) in the world with an estimated number of between 400,000 and 800,000 women living with its scourge.
Northern Nigeria is said to have a disproportionate amount of VVF cases with over 85 per cent of these figures.
Many women with VVF are regarded as social outcasts and marriages have been dissolved as a result of that. Prolonged obstructed labor has been figured out to be the main caused of Vesico Vaginal Fistula in women according to this physician.
A research carried out by the Bingham University Teaching Hospital in 2018 has it that over 50% of the patients brought to the facility are either local farmers, married to a local farmer or someone whose parents are local farmers.
