The midfielder reserved special praise for his coach, after they recorded a draw in the first leg of their Caf Champions League preliminary round tie
Rivers United midfielder, Weli Christian insists coach Stanley Eguma deserves all the plaudits he has received, following their 0-0 draw with AS Real Bamako in the first leg of the preliminary round Caf Champions League on Saturday. The Pride of Rivers dusted themselves off after recent uninspiring performances in the Nigeria Professional Football League to hold the Malian side at the Stade Modibo Keita de Bamako.
Rivers United produced a good performance and the midfielder believes Eguma's tactical ingenuity accounted for the positive result. "It has been a privilege working under coach Stanley Eguma. I tell you he's been wonderful and I believe the sky will be the limit for him," Weli told Goal.
"He has done a lot in and will reap the result of his labour. He's a fantastic coach and I'm really glad to work under him. He deserves lots of commendation. "The game was played at such a high pace and we stuck to our plan. We can now go back to Nigeria and complete the job."
Rivers United will host the return leg against AS Real Bamako in Port Harcourt on 19th February, 2017.
